How about it turns him into mushroom and when he touches an enemy he turns into the enemy and the enemy grows huge at the same time.. lol I dont know.
As per your question, maybe ..hm let me rub my cranium for a second.. I guess he could create platforms or something. It would be odd since the 8-bit mario has the same abilities as the 16-bit one. It would be funny though if it was just his body in 8-bit and the rest 16-bit.
