The New Land 2

Posted by Kenney - July 31st, 2009

You probably won't remember but back in 2005 I made a game called The New Land which was a very basic strategy game like Beasts & Bumpkins or Age of Empires (minus the battling).

Play The New Land here!

Now I plan on making a part 2 which will be tons better (what do you suspect, after 4 years!). So, do you have suggestions or ideas which I can use? I would love to hear 'em :)

Here's a little preview of a mindmil:

cool

i built my new land all across the bottom menu :D

Yes, get some voice actors like me (hint) to voice some characters for you. Like when you click on them and tell them to go places.

Sounds good! I'll get in touch when I need some voice acting. :)

have a lumberjack unit that wears a checkered shirt and has a beard

Oh yeah, definatly.

Ziet er goed uit!

Bedankt! :D

Every once in a while, a wild rhinocerus should come down and damage your buildings.

Infact- If there were a few different disasters like that in the game, the player could build a kind of Disaster Station that saves you from stuff like that. The higher you upgrade this building, the faster disasters are resolved.
When I say "resolved", I mean a bunch of little policemen run out and just swarm around the intrusion until it goes away.

Actually it might be funny if instead of policemen they were super heroes that flew about. Like you could buy a Super Hero HQ to protect you from stuff like tornados or meteors or monster attacks.

Also, a total necessity is for the animations of the buildings being built to be fun. Like in Red Alert where everything builds itself out of the ground. I'd love to do animations of that.
If not that, then you at least need to show progression of things being built. I'm not suggesting this from a gameplay perspective, I just think it'd look alot funner.
Oh and you should be able to upgrade buildings, which is also a necessity.

Actually I just played the first one and realised how irrelevant everything I'm saying is. I hope the new one gets more modern. Actually now I feel like making my own.
Nice art by the way.

OH and what does building a volcano actually do?

Sounds good and yeah building animations need to be done. I think a volcano makes things grow quicker or something. I dunno, it's old :P

I must say I am very excited about the prospect of a new "New Land" game, I remember a few years back when I first played the Gold version and was impressed by the results, and most of all the simplicity.

Your drawing style is nice to look at and combinded with a good solid game engine I think NL2 can go far.

Yes, some voice actors. -wink wink wink wink wink wink wink- My eye hurts.

I liked the first New Land, still playing it now. RAWR.

Well... make it less shitty.
