IMPORTANT: Chrome bug, controls not working for everyone!

Posted by Kenney - August 10th, 2011

To all Chrome users:
There currently is a bug in Chrome that blocks key input in ActionScript 2 games.

To developers:
Nothing you can do, the bug is fixed but it takes Google 2 whole weeks to release this. I'd suggest holding onto your AS2 game and wait until the bug is fixed and people updated their Chrome version before releasing it on Newgrounds.

To Tom/Newground staff:
I'm trying to put together a team of all mayor game portals (NG, Kongregate, ArmorGames etc.) to see if we can get Google to hotfix this bug immediately.

Thanks.

I was wondering what was going on. I thought it was just an isolated bug when I was playtesting my game, but a friend of mine had it as well.

It's good to hear that a fix is coming, but two weeks is a bit harsh...

Yes it's very confusing and it took me 2 weeks to figure out it wasn't my fault.

Yup.... a lot of ppl have been mentioning it; hope it gets fixed soon!

And soon being sooner than 2 weeks.

Good thing I programmed all my games in AS3. Wait, no... I didn't. :(

Apparently this bug doesn't happen all the time right? Still works for me.

Yep, I'm giving this number out of the top of my head but I think 1 out of 3 people using Chrome are affected.

Sucks, we (GP studios) released an AS2 game about a month ago and we had loads of people with that problem.
Couldn't work out what was causing it...
IE has bugs and glitches, and then so does Chrome.
Really screws flash devs as the problem is out of their control.

I guess you could release mouse only games until then?

Sucks though.

A good excuse to learn AS3 :)

Tweet bomb @googlechrome until they fix it. That's what I did.

Thanks a million for the heads up. I just got back into game developing again.
